How to care for your mop heads

Let’s talk about traditional string mops and how to care for them.  Not all traditional string mops can be washed. Cotton mops are inexpensive and considered almost disposable after a period of time.  You can hand wash them in the sink or a bucket with a bit of laundry detergent, rinse well and hang to dry.

Blend mops are more costly but last longer and perform better. They are typically a blend of several if not all of the following: cotton, rayon, polyester and nylon.  You can wash these in the washer….we recommend a laundry bag or lingerie bag but make sure it’s a sturdy one.  You can also soak them in a bucket with a bit of laundry detergent, agitate them, then soak.  Rinse them very well.  You do not want traces of soap left in your mophead…that could cause streaking.  No bleach, no fabric softener, hang to dry in a well ventilated area.  Spread it out to ensure good drying speed.
